Description

A very early work. 1997 in fact and my second piece that I created live at USC.
Still in the days I wasn't quite sure what I was doing. I think I took 45 minutes with this piece which for me is kind of unthinkable now.

I added a cropped monochrome version of this like a decade ago. Not sure why I did that. But here she is again.

I was getting through a pretty deep heartbreak and this was my piece for expressing that and letting go.
Her name was Tracy. To get the shot I had her leaping off of a chair.
As we shot her expression got more and more pained.
When I asked what she was going through she said...

"I am feeling my disconnection from God..."

Art has it's ways of expressing things we never thought of....

Yeah... it's a strange, unnerving pain when someone, for just an instant, opens up a window deep into their soul... and then suddenly it slams shut again.

Beautiful image. Yes, I can see it in that context.
