Description

Thank you all for the incredible response and Daily Deviation on the first of this series.

Quite humbling and unexpected. Reading some of the comments, I probably need to do some qualifying to the imagery.

The shoots I do for ISO are basically broken down into three categories: Marketing (The most conservative), Trend (for catalog and some advertising) and actual Advertising.
(The DD image was actually a marketing image. This one is advertising)

As with any corporate advertising, there are some constraints as to how far one can push given the market for that particular company. For every new product (in this case, hair color) there is a sales team out in the field who are an integral part of the success of any new campaign. A smart client knows what their sales team can sell and what they can't given their markets. If you go crazy and not include them, then it's a disaster. I've seen it. You may get amazing imagery, but if doesn't fit the market they have been selling to, then it's a mess.

So within the parameters I've been given, I am required to deliver what they need. That's my job...and I am absolutely grateful for it.

The concepts for the shoots are worked out months in advance and the casting is done literally the day before we shoot. Often with 300+ models for three spots.

This was a tough shoot. The friend of our lead designer had died that morning in New York, the original lighting design we had thought of simply didn't work and we had to be out of the studio at exactly 5PM, which meant that we couldn't waste a second of production time.

I was shooting with the Hasselblad H4D-40 tethered to a Mac tower run by my assistant Matthew, and as I shoot, every image comes up on the monitor to be viewed by the client. So there really isn't anything to hide behind. There's no "I'll just fix everything in Photoshop." It's there or it isn't....and at first it wasn't. The original concept simply didn't work. So I basically had to come up with something that I knew would work in about 10 minutes. Thankfully we found it.

JOICO/ISO are incredible clients for that reason - the freedom to simply make the thing work, not micro-manage, trust their artists and create an environment for true teamwork. Everyone's goal is the same - it's the image. And I believe we got it. I LOVE my clients....

Excellent work, compliments to the model as well. The hair color is magnificent and the various color changes and tones are very warm. The make-up and general look of the model is fantastic so congrats go out to Aadam, Darby, and Olaf. As for the photographer, excellent job. All of your ISO shots are spectacular and I love them.
