JAEL - AFTERMATH by kevissimo JAEL - AFTERMATH by kevissimo
Finished this morning. She fought me to come into the world. But considering the subject...it's very fitting.....

Jael, in the moment following her killing of Sisera with a tent peg.

OILGRAPH (MIXED MEDIA TRADITIONAL PHOTO AND OIL PAINT)
ON WOODEN PANEL -20x16
FROM THE CONTINUING 70+ PANEL SERIES 'IN THE TIME OF THE JUDGES'

Well done, both you and the model. (once again) These are incredible. They convey so well just what these moments would mean.

Awesome chapter. Awesome rendering! You really put a lot of complexity into her face. She may be empowered, or jaded, or frightened about what she's just done. I like that the canvas almost seems to have veins... and the trickle of blood is very well done.

Thank you....this has been a long journey. I've been working on all of Judges for nearly 4 years now. Now I'm finally moving ahead. I'm actually glad that it has taken so long. I wasn't fully ready four years ago. Now, seems to be the time.

Simone was again, wonderful as Jael. The first panel I shot of her was one of the first in 2007. We've both come a long way since....

Thank you again...very much appreciated

Intense.

I have a question about your style/medium however, could you explain the process you go through?

Thanks

It varies from piece to piece, but the consistent element is a traditionally darkroom made print(s) from film, glued down to a wooden panel...and the rest is basically oil paint with maybe some texturizing beforehand. And that's basically it. It's really just all in the 'how' it's done.

Hm.. so more about the wooden panel, are we basically just talking about a sheet of wood?

Well a finished out panel framed in back with 2x2 hardwood, primed with gesso and sanded. But a simple wooden panel would work as well. If it's a single photo you don't necessarily need it mounted but it makes it alot easier. But the minute you begin to mount multiple prints you need a stable base.

Interesting - well thanks for explaining that to me, Kevin :)

By the way, I'll hopefully be able to get around to uploading the finished pastel by tonight. I'll send you a message when it is up.
