History The Stations of the Cross are the fourteen traditional panels depicting the final moments of Christ's life starting with his condemnation to death at the hands of Pilate to his crucifixion and burial in the tomb. Over the years pilgrims would go to Jerusalem and walk the route Jesus took on his way to the cross, stopping at moments along the way to remember, reflect and pray. The Stations began appearing in the middle ages when pilgrims were forbidden to enter Jeruselem when it was occupied by the Turks. They made the Stations as a way to remember in Spirit back in their own countries. Long considered only a Catholic tradition, they are now finding a popularity across all traditions. These are my versions. This journey started in January of this year and the last of the Fourteen was completed April 4th.
What I like about these pieces is that everything seems to be blacked out but the people, and especially their faces. Not only does this add to the mood, it also highlights their emotion.
Thank you...this was one of the ones I was led to take a different direction in, mid painting at about 3AM when I was exhausted. I think I finished it just as the sun was rising...
One thing that always mesmerized me as a young child were the Stations of the Cross hung in the church I attended...they still do today. Superb skills you have...
