[Ok...do over....On a rare occasion I'll think a piece finished when in fact it isn't. This is one...After having finished another piece (Bokim) which I haven't added yet, the original just didn't feel complete. So this morning after my coffee when I was going to throw the day at something completely different, I put her back on the easel and took her to where I felt she needed to be. I'm trusting I did....]
Rahab....I've been thinking alot about Rahab and her encounter with the spies told in the book of Joshua. Sent there to spy out the city of Jericho, they stayed at the house of Rahab, a prostitute in the town. The original word used for this staying was "Shakab" which more often than not has sexual connotations. Whether they stayed or stayed we'll never know, but in the morning when the city officials came to find them, she sent them searching off in the wrong direction...a holy lie of sorts.
A pact was made between these spies and Rahab for her family to be spared, for in a prophetic speech about the God of Israel, she revealed a faith...perhaps new, perhaps previously secret, but a faith that in the words of history was declared one of the greatest of the age.
What happened in that house that day? What was said that we don't know? Regardless....this is Rahab in that moment where everything changed.
