THE LESSON (GIDEON PUNISHES THE MEN OF SUCCOTH)

Description

Finished yesterday, though shot awhile back.
A documentary crew wanted to see the process so this gave me an opportunity to make this piece.
I held off on it a bit due to it's violence, but it's what happened.

One can argue that Gideon...overreacted.
But I guess the lesson is
don't deny bread to or mock a man who is fighting on your behalf....

And a bit of trivia on the piece. Asa (the man on the bottom left) emailed me a couple days before wanting to be in the work. He said, "I don't care if I'm naked and covered in blood."
I said..."Well, today is your lucky day."

Unbeknownst to me when I met Chris, was that he was in LA being filmed for his own Discovery Channel Science show "Stuck With Hackett"

And as the story is told
"Then Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle, from the Ascent of Heres.  And he caught a young man of the men of Succoth and interrogated him; and he wrote down for him the leaders of Succoth and its elders, seventy-seven men. Then he came to the men of Succoth and said, “Here are Zebah and Zalmunna, about whom you ridiculed me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your weary men?’” And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth. Then he tore down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city."</span>

My oh my how you capture the dispensing of a promise. The odds just made it seem so unlikely to the unwitting leaders.
