This is the new companion image to "The Healer" [link]

This was after Jeff's second operation for the same brain tumor. This operation was more invasive and highly risky. He is a complete survivor and now free of the cancer. As I said in the first version he is an inspiration, a personal hero...and a good friend.

It was created in performance this past Saturday at a convention in San Diego called Emergence.

The mole is his mole. I'm not about to augment a friend's face because it'll please someone. Maybe next time I'll submit a version without it...or the scars. Perhaps that'll be less annoying....

You know, I rarely get affected by any sort of message in art; even though there often is one, I'm more of a purely visual/symbolic character.
But this really got to me. I don't know, it might be my current mood, but all of a sudden, while looking at this piece, my mind started imagining what your friend has gone through, and you as a friend of his, as well.
I'm not even going to comment on the purely visual; it feels like that'll just spoil my experience.

This is truly great...

Incredible work Kevin. Its so strong, and an incredible image of strenght yet with so much frailty evident. Really impressive.

It must have been an incredible thing to see, you doing this in performance. Some people are too lucky and don't know it!

about that 1st comment... pay no attention.... :disbelief:

wonderful photograph and recovery. the fire near his hair and the garb and lack of light on his face really are neat. the patch of canvas is very helpful.

the edges I find distracting.
